Jack Russell Terriers can be found in shelters where a great number of other dogs are placed too. Rescue dogs are either abandoned by their owners or brought to rescues as strays. Rescue organizations give them necessary veterinary care and foster homes.

A terrier will not be placed in a home that is not approved. A person who considers adopting a Jack Russell Terrier should fill out an adoption application. Afterwards, he or she will be asked for a home visit. Jack Russells are active dogs with special demands. A small apartment is unsuitable for a dog that needs much exercise and space. A person with an active lifestyle, time and desire to train and care for the Jack Russell Terrier will be a perfect match. Most rescues will require a fenced yard as an indispensable condition of adopting a Jack Russell Terrier.

Since Jack Russells are serious hunting dogs and should be treated as such, it is not a very good idea to place this dog in a home with cats or other small pets. Also, they don't do well with children under six years of age.

If you are looking for a dog that does not shed or bark or dig, the Jack Russell Terrier is hardly a right choice for you. All rescue dogs are spay/neutered. They may or may not have some serious health or behavioral problems, but they are sure to be depressed at the loss of a loving home. If you are seeking a true companion, an energetic and intelligent pet and if you are prepared to devote a considerable amount of time with the dog, take a challenge and consider adopting one of rescue Jack Russell Terriers.

Jack Russell Terriers Breeders - Jack Russell Terriers are native to England. The country is famous for its hunting traditions and is the motherland of many hunting breeds. Most of them emerged as a result of breeder's boundless desire and strive to produce a perfect hunting companion and a wonderful pet. The Jack Russell Terrier is not an exception to the rule.

The Reverend John Russell, a great enthusiast and hunter, has realized his dream to breed a super fox terrier, capable of displaying a considerable extent of agility, intelligence, and endurance during hunting sessions. John Russell bred a terrier, a bitch named Trump, to be precise, and achieved enormous success.

Jack Russell Terriers Puppies - Jack Russell Terriers are working dogs whose original function is hunting. Today the dog continues to be used in hunting sessions, as a vermin dog, and takes part in many canine sports, such as agility and obedience. However, the Jack Russell is now a popular pet dog, which causes great concern on the part of many breed fanciers.

The breed originated in England in the 19th century. Its name stems from its father, the Reverend (Parson) John Russell. This foxhunting lover regarded a Fox Terrier bitch named Trump one of the best hunting dogs. Trump was all white except some markings on the head. It allowed hunters to distinguish between the dog and the game in the field. Parson Russell created a new breed that received wide distribution in Europe.

Jack Russell Terriers Pictures - Jack Russell Terriers are one of the most highly valued dog breeds belonging to the working group. This breed possesses all the characteristics necessary for a successful hunter. The Jack Russell Terrier is alert and intelligent, courageous and confident.

The Jack Russell Terrier has a fairly long muscular body, enabling him to be used for foxhunting. The Jack Russell's coat may be of three types: rough, smooth or broken. The broken type is smooth on the body but with whiskers on the dog's face. The white color should be predominant in all coat types. Common coat colors are black and white, tan and white, and the combination of these three colors. Almond shaped eyes are small and dark. Small ears are V shaped, and carried against the head.

Jack Russell Terriers Information - Jack Russell Terriers are loved by many for their outstanding personality traits and the ease of upkeep. This breed has earned the reputation of a playful inquisitive companion suited for energetic people. Although the Jack Russell Terrier has entered the AKC Terrier group not long ago, its popularity is growing.

Jack Russell Terriers have always been valued for their working qualities. Perfect hunting dogs, they were bred for strength and agility, rather than for looks. Therefore, a variety of types are possible. Jack Russell Terrier fanciers have established breed clubs, each promoting various types of appearance.

Jack Russell Terriers Dogs - Jack Russell Terriers originated in Great Britain more than a hundred years ago. They were bred by the Reverend Russell, a great foxhunting enthusiast and dog lover. The breed has retained its working qualities over time and is now used in tracking, hunting, and other activities.

Nowadays, the Jack Russell Terrier is well distributed in Great Britain and France. It is also gaining popularity in the United States, which can be attributed to the great success of movies that the breed was filmed in. The Jack Russell Terrier is considered second to none in hunting the badger and the fox. The dog often works with hounds tracking the prey. Its main task, though, is cornering the fox in its den and making it accessible to hunters.
