Jack Russell Terriers - Rescues - Appearance
Jack Russell Terriers are robust muscular dogs of a medium size. In order to function as a working terrier, which he originally is, the Jack Russell should have the following characteristics: alert and assertive attitude, balance in height, weight and length, weatherproof coat, slightly arched muscular neck, a small chest to enable him to work underground, and strong legs. As the Jack Russell Terrier is first and foremost a hunting dog, the appearance standard is not very strict. Special attention is always paid to its temperament and working skills.

Jack Russell Terriers - Rescues - Temperament
Jack Russells are intelligent and lively dogs. They are courageous and almost fearless by their nature. Energetic and alert, they are devoted to their owner as much as they are engrossed in their work when hunting. Jack Russells are easy to train. Their popularity from movies proves that they are really smart and appealing. However, Jack Russells tend to be stubborn at times, especially if they are urged to do something they don't like. The more intelligent the dog is, the more independent personality it tends to display. Jack Russell Terriers - Rescues - History in Brief
Parson Jack Russell is known to have developed the Jack Russell Terrier breed in the 19th century in Devon, England. He crossed old wire-haired terriers to get the dog that would take on fox, rabbit, boar and other quarry. There are long-bodied Jack Russell Terriers, and dogs with rather short bodies, with longer and shorter legs. This emphasizes Jack Russell Terriers' vocation - to be earth dogs and great hunters.
